In a political landscape of extreme views, there lies a mythical creature known as a moderate. Well, not too mythical, being that we exist, but people these days prefer to act like we don't, or we're some kind of demon, both untrue.
1. No, it does not mean we lie in the middle of EVERY issue.
Yeah, we're not polarized, but that doesn't mean we're in the EXACT center. Some moderates lean left, like myself. Some lean right. Some don't really lean either way but have strong opinions on certain issues.
2. We have opinions
There's an odd opinion going around that says us moderates have no opinion whatsoever. Again, untrue. See above, we can lean a certain way without being extreme, or perhaps in today's political climate, it's dangerous for us to express them.
3. We examine both sides without taking them
Because we're not adhering to one "team", for the most part, we're better able to examine both sides of the argument and decide for ourselves what we believe in. We also are better able to see the benefits and (many) flaws in both polarized movements.
4. For the extremists, we're always on the "other side"
Personal opinion time: If I stated my opinion that the Alt Left's opinion of Cultural Appropriation is uninformed, and only emphasizes the "stay on your own side" mentality, people in that group would think I'm Alt-Right. If I stated my opinion that religion is not grounds for denying service, then the Alt-Right would say I'm Alt-Left. Even when we're not technically on a side, we're on the "other side" if we dare to disagree.
5. We exist
I suppose that's been established at the beginning of this article, but a little reminder doesn't hurt. Especially in a political climate like today, where everything is all left, or all right, only this or only that.
