Move in day is long time coming and once it's finally here it can be prone to major anxiety. But there is so much to wonder once you're all moved in and settled. You have the whole weekend before classes begin and time to experience the university for the first time. I wasn't sure what to expect or know prior to this long welcoming four day weekend, but now I have settled in and already learned some key tips to surviving through the first weekend.

1) Wear comfortable clothes

Back at home I would dress up everyday to go out or do anything. But here it is completely different, comfortable clothes are key. For whatever task is involved, sitting around, going to get food or exploring campus all you see athletic shorts and t-shirts in every direction. Of course dress up when going out to party, but other than that having those easy to wear items is major.

2) Stay in a group

Buddy system. Going out is fun but it can be dangerous if you are left alone. Stay with your friends or even share your locations with each other because it is easy to become separated and not know where you're going or how to get back to your dorm.

3) Introduce yourself to new people

Although it may be scary and intimidating, say hi! Introduce yourself to the people around you that you don't know, ask them where their hall is or what their majoring in. Most people are just as scared as you to the thought of making new friends and meeting new people. You'll usually find out the person is awesome and someone you can now call a friend.

4) Ask the cute boy you met for their Snapchat or number

Regret is all you will feel after not doing this. Take it from me, I met the cutest boy I have ever seen and he introduced himself to me but that was all. I kept thinking about going and talking to him more but never got the chance. It's a big school, 23,000 students, and there is a high chance you will never see him again, so get his number or social media before you are filled with regret like me.

5) Keep track of your lanyard

The amount of scares I had this past weekend of losing this is endless. Most students on campus carry a lanyard around that contain items such as their keys, ID, money, debit card, etc. Do not lose it, if you do your life as you know it will be over. Those things are crucial to surviving in college, so make sure you keep it close.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
