The Syllabus is your friend
College is much different then high school which is why the adjustment is hard for many of us. In high school when there was homework assigned or an upcoming test, the teacher would tell you in class or perhaps through an email. In college it is not always that simple ! You may be lucky and get a professor that will do this, but a lot of the time it's up to you to figure out whats due. The syllabus is a summary of the class expectations and contains all the components due in the course. Some teachers will hand this out the first class, others will expect you to access it online. The best advice is to make it a routine to check the syllabus once a day.
Manage your time and plan ahead
While some days you may not have a lot of work to do for your classes don't let your time go to waste. There are going to be days where you have a lot due for several classes. If you don't manage your time wisely you will have sleepless nights filled with stress. Get into the habit of planning ahead by writing down everything you have due for the week and get a head start. Doing this will help create an even spread of work each day and hopefully keep a loads of stress off your shoulders!
Get Involved !
College campuses everywhere offer a variety of ways to get involved and meet people. Whether it's through a sports team, Greek life, clubs or even community service , find a way to stay busy and meet new faces! You never know who you will meet. Some of your life long friends you will meet in college. Aside from the amazing connections you will form this also looks great on a resume or on a job application.
Take as many pictures as you can
Throughout your years at college you will have many great experiences. Make sure to capture them in a picture so you have something to look back at. College will leave you with some of the greatest memories of your life. Look back at these pictures years later and laugh. You may not care now, but trust me you will wish you took pictures later on.
Make your Dorm your home
Since you will be spending most of your time at college here, make sure you decorate your dorm in a way that makes you feel at home. Add colors and decorations that describe you. Who doesn't want to feel comfortable in there own room? Hang up pictures, pick a color scheme you like, and make sure to keep everything organized. Having a room filled with style and things you love will enhance your mood and also help you with your academic success believe it or not.
