5 Tips To Reduce Stress

Stress and college pretty much go hand in hand. OK, let’s face it -- life and stress go hand in hand. Unfortunately, stress is a part of everyday life and something that is inescapable. However, with a few easy tips and tricks, you can easily reduce your stress level and learn how to cope with the trials and tribulations of life on a daily basis.

1. Do some form of exercise to calm your mind and body.

Whether it’s a yoga class, spending 30 minutes meditating or doing a Zumba class, do something for yourself and allow yourself time each day to decompress and recharge.

2. Journal.

It may sound cheesy, but writing out your feelings may help you cope with struggles. Jotting down your thoughts, emotions and worries can help you reflect. Sometimes it can also help you adjust your mood.

3. Find a creative outlet.

Find your “zen work.” Maybe you want to chill out by playing music or painting on a canvas in order to calm your nerves. They even have adult coloring books to allow stressed adults to diffuse their negative energy into something more soothing.

4. Take a break from your stress and enjoy your favorite comedy.

Whether it’s a funny SNL skit or YouTube video of people reacting to getting their wisdom teeth out, take a break and zoom into something that will make you actually laugh out loud.

5. Have a shopping trip or lunch with friends.

Go to the beach and take a stroll. Go to the store and buy yourself flowers. Go buy that new shade of lipstick you’ve been dying to try out or grab a quick bite with your BFF.

Regardless of your lifestyle, stress will creep up at your job, at home or at school. Nothing is perfect in life, but if you learn to utilize coping mechanisms, you can make each day just a little bit brighter!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
