As Thanksgiving comes upon us, we all dig out our “fat pants” and mentally prepare ourselves to go into a food coma for 24 hours as we eat endlessly with friends and family, giving thanks. But as the night comes to an end, there is another thought that starts creeping into our minds: Black Friday. The day that has traditionally always fallen the day after Thanksgiving with hundreds of thousands of holiday shoppers all around the country waking up before the sun rises just to get to the mall in time to ensure they receive the best deals of the season. I myself venture out on this day mostly to get a good amount of my holiday shopping done. Here are a few ways hat can make your day run a little smoother!
Eat Breakfast and Drink A Large Coffee
Even though you may still be full from eating a huge, delicious meal the night before, it is good to get something in your stomach in the morning to ensure you’re not starving as soon as you get to your first store. Food courts and fast food places are going to be packed all day so maybe bring a few snacks with you if you do not have time to wait in very long lines. Since you are waking up at an early hour, grab an extra large coffee and put it in a travel mug. The coffee lines will also be very long and you’re going to need an extra boost to help you through the day!
2. Plan Ahead
Figure out exactly who you need to buy for, try and get ideas of presents to get them, and then plan out the stores that you would like to go to. Don’t plan on getting in and out of these stores right away, the lines are usually wrapping around the store. Try to map out where you are going too so you’re not walking in circles and don't spend too much time finding your way.
3. Coupons
While the print version of coupons may be becoming a thing of the past, dig through your junk email and find stores that you've given your email to. Then see if any of them are offering special deals or emailed you a coupon that can be scanned at the register! Don’t miss out on any deals if you are going to be dedicated enough to venture out on this crazy shopping day. You can also very proactive and check online to see if these stores are offering any better deals online so you can skip a store or two on black friday!
4. Be patient
The frustration, stress, and rush often brings out the worst in people. Parking will be a mess, so pay extra attention and don't show road rage towards others. When in stores or walking in the mall, remember to still say excuse me and be generally polite. Afterall, this is a happy holiday season where we are all supposed to be “spreading cheer and singing loud for all to hear,” as said by Buddy the Elf! So don’t cut in line or any of that silliness, deal with the craziness and remember that everyone else in these stores are in the same position as you! Smile, it’s Christmas time!
5. Schedule a Nap
Chances are since the day begins so early, you won’t be spending your entire day at the mall. Black Friday can be physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting. Therefore it is best to give yourself some time to relax, nap, and recover before continuing with your Friday. It is in everyone’s best interest that you make time to do this! Wake up from your nap feeling accomplished and like a smart shopper!
Black Friday is certainly not a day for everyone so if huge crowds, some impatient people, and long lines do not excite you, it may be best to avoid this day. In all reality, the stores will continue to have sales throughout the holiday season so do not fret! There is also the sister holiday, Cyber Monday, where anyone can buy many presents from the comfort of their own home! For those of you who are venturing out, I hope these tips can help and I may see you there! Just remember to give thanks with your family first on Thanksgiving and be as patient as possible on Friday. It is almost the most wonderful time of the year; Happy almost holidays everyone!
