It's that time of year again. College students are packing up and moving back to school, to dorm life. I know, I know, you've already seen about 10 articles for tips on moving back and what to pack. But here is an article on how to make your dorm feel as homey as possible. We know it won't be quite like that giant room at home that you've slept in since you were a kid, but it's a close second.
1. Put up mirrors throughout your room.
Mirrors make the room feel so much bigger than it actually is, which is a huge plus when you live in a dorm. Put up cute mirrors on the wall that are both useful and decorative.
2. Have a set color scheme or pattern.
If you don't have a specific color scheme or a pattern that you are sticking to then the room will feel junky all of the time. Your room will be so overwhelmed in colors and patterns that you won't feel calm or at home in your own space, and trust me, nobody wants that.
3. Don't make the walls too cluttered.
You don't have as much wall space as you think, so don't try to take up every square inch of it with a picture of your extended family that I haven't seen in years or your best friend from first grade that you don't keep up with it. Crowded walls will only make the room feel more cluttered.
4. Keep the room neat.
I know that everyone isn't a neat freak like myself, but keeping your room in order will soothe you. With an orderly room you won't have to go looking for that favorite shirt of yours or that handout from class that you need at 8 a.m.
5. Have lots of pillows on the bed.
Pillows in all different shapes, patterns, and sizes are a wonderful addition to your room. They make your room more personal and give you that sense of comfort that you want in your bedroom.
Dorm living can be convenient and fun, but it can also be a true second home, and for that you will love it.
