5 Tips for Overcoming Writer's Block

Writer's block is something everyone struggles with at some point. I know I constantly am having issues thinking of something to write about. So I decided to compile a list of tips and tricks for overcoming the terrible thing known as writer's block.

Tip one: Take a step away.

One of the most common and useful tips for overcoming writer's block is to take a step away from whatever it is you're trying to write about. Get up and go for a walk outside, go out to get coffee or make something to eat. Do whatever you want but remove yourself from your writing and do something else. Then when you're ready, go back to it with a clean slate and new state of mind.

Tip two: Get rid of distractions.

It's almost impossible to come up with one solid idea when your mind is focusing on 10 different things. So eliminate the distractions, turn off the phone, get off the internet, and go into a room alone. Carve out 2 or 3 hours specifically for writing in a distraction-free environment and chances are you'll be more productive.

Tip three: Write.

This may seem a bit redundant but sometimes to overcome writer's block, you actually have to write. It could be something related to what you're trying to write about, or it could be something that has nothing to do with it. The purpose is to get your mind working and thinking, then most likely the ideas will flow right out.

Tip four: Identify where you're stuck.

If you have a very wide topic and are just struggling with finding your supporting ideas, identify where you are having problems and ask for help. A teacher, a friend, even the internet if you are really that desperate. If you can identify where your problem is, chances are you can find someone to help you overcome it.

Tip five: Know that nothing will ever be 100% perfect.

If you're done with the actual writing part of your paper, and you're just stuck in the editing and revising stage take a step back from the paper. Know that no matter how many times you revise your paper, you won't ever be 100% satisfied with your work, writing is a neverending cycle and there will always be changes you think you should make. Striving for perfection is a great thing to do, but it is said that perfection is something that can kill creativity. You can re-write your paper 100 times, and every time there will be at least one thing you want to change, don't let the need for perfection consume you. If you believe you gave your best effort in writing the paper, chances are, it's going to be great.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
