Bid day has come and gone, and the excitement of joining a sorority is still lingering in the air. Being a new member is truly an experience, so here's some helpful tips on how to make your first year in your sorority the best one!
1. Talk to people.
I know it can be intimidating being in a large organization with people you don't really know quite yet. But, you'll never get to know anybody if you don't talk to them. Your sisters are super happy to have you, and they really want to get to know you. So, don't be afraid to talk to them.
2. Love your pledge class.
These girls will be by your side through everything this year. They will be the one's you get to know first, and they will be the ones who know you better than anyone else. Your pledge class shares the same experience at the same time, and that creates a special bond.
3. Get involved.
Don't be afraid to volunteer for things. The more time you spend with the sisters you don't know so well yet, the better you get to know them. Also, try to attend all the events you can. You only get this experience for four years, so make sure you make the most of it.
4. Don't be afraid to branch out.
A lot of people share this strange misconception that all sorority girls never participate in anything outside of their sorority, which is so untrue. Every single organization on my campus has some of my sisters in it (which is great, because you never have to go to anything alone). It's more than okay to be involved in other organizations. In fact, most sororities encourage it.
5. Cherish it.
You may be a new member this year, but this year will go by in a blink of an eye. The next thing you know, you're an initiated sister who is just weeks away from getting a little! So, don't rush it! Enjoy it while it lasts.
That's my advice, new members. I'm so happy you all found your forever home. May the bids be ever in your favor, and may this school year be a great one.
