5 Times You Should Have Listened to Your Mom
Bustle

At some time or another, every teenager thinks they know better than their mom. Let me break it to you now- you definitely do not. No matter how uncool or old you think your mom may be, she understands it all. She has been through everything you have been through or will ever go through. Take her advice for all it is because the best advice you can take is from someone who has made the same exact mistakes you might potentially make.

1. “Take a jacket with you”

Even when you come to realize that she was right you still adamantly argue against her. You will sit shivering with chill bumps with shattering teeth trying to tell yourself you aren't cold.

2. “Call your grandparents”

Nobody likes awkward talk with older relatives answering the same questions about where we plan to attend school, what we want to be when we grow up, and if we finally have a significant other. However, once you can no longer talk to them you will realize how much you actually miss the invading personal questions. You will realize you would kill to be asked “so do you have a boyfriend yet?” one more time.

3. “Text me when you get there”

It is a simple task that we promise to do but it somehow manages to slip our mind half the time. Do not think that your mom does not think of the worst case scenario when she hears a siren and she knows you are on the road. Do your mom the favor of easing her mind as soon as you get to your destination. Not only will she have peace of mind sooner but she will trust you even more.

4. “Put on sunscreen”

We have all walked into the house looking like a lobster after a summer day at the pool. We try to play it off like it does not hurt as bad as it really does while we cringe every time we have to raise our hand more than a foot. So put on sunscreen. Until you are completely white. Using the highest SPF that is available near you.

5. “Because I said so”

Does anybody even know what this really means? Most teens take it as their mom just does not want them to have any fun. Trust me, a college freshman, when I say that your mom has a real reason behind the phrase “because I said so”. She never speaks these four treacherous words just because she can, but because she is trying to protect you. Just because she won’t tell you her real reason does not mean it is not a good one.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
