5 Things You Will Miss When You Are In College

Goodbye high school, hello real world.

Leaving for college is one of the most exciting things to happen after high school. There is so much freedom, independency, and *gasp* responsibility. You finally get to focus on classes you actually like (well, most of them), make your own schedule on your own time, and you have so many choices for majors! The downside? All familiarity and comfortableness is now gone. You leave behind your family and memories of what things were like when you didn’t have to pay back student loans. But fear not! I have made a list for you just in case you are wondering what it is like to "adult."

1. Home Cooked Meals

I never would have thought I would miss macaroni & cheese from a box so much until I was in college. The food choices may be great on campus, but the monotonous availability of only fast food can wear on a person, and not to mention the prices!

2. Having Alone Time

If you are anything like me, you are blessed to have amazing roommates; but living with other people is difficult. There are times when you don't want their friends or obnoxious boyfriend around and you can do nothing about it. Invest in a great pair of headphones with noise cancelling properties, that will for sure give you some peace and quiet.

3. Your Pets

Whether you have had your pet since you were a kid, or only a few years, leaving them behind is devastating. They were always the ones that never judged you when you had a bad day, and they kept you company when nobody else was there. But don't worry! Long breaks come faster than you expect and you get to see their furry faces again!

4. Your Family

I know, this one seems ridiculous, but no matter how your relationship with your family is, you will miss them. Being away from them for a long period of time will help you understand just how much they love you, and yes, even when they incessantly called your name just to drive you crazy. And don't forget to call them every once in awhile, because they miss you more than they can explain.

5. Free Time

This is a big one. In college, you will never have as much time to do whatever you want like you did in high school. If you do, well then you must be doing something wrong. Your free time will either be spent reading, writing essays, or working to pay off those terrifying school loans. Don't get me wrong, college is fun, but be aware of those sneaky due dates!

Don't worry about how homesick you might be, because there is too much to do, and be so involved with, you almost won't even have time to miss everyone back home!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
