Thank you for all the memories.

5 Things You Will Miss After Leaving West Liberty University
Jessica Bruce

Here at good ol' West Liberty University, we always complain about how there is nothing to do on the Hilltop. On Friday by noon our campus turns into a ghost town, even though it was hard to find a seat in the Union on Wednesday. There is always the enviable complaint about parking, or how we never get snow days when 88 is basically a sheet of ice. After taking a step back, these complaints are minor to the memories and love that I have experienced here at WLU. I take pride in being a Topper, and I know that we all are going to miss this place when it’s time to part our ways.

1. Donna’s Omelettes

Come on, guys. We all know Donna’s omelettes are the best. Dale’s sandwich making skills come in at a close second. On the contrary, there is always a glimmer of excitement when “All-day Omelettes” is the special. Donna, you are a precious gem at WLU and we are going to miss your delicious omelettes. Thank you and the rest of the Sodexo staff!

2. Basketball Games

It’s not that we don’t love all of the WLU athletes, but the basketball games are always so much fun! The student section is always loud and everyone is always having a good time. The overwhelming Topper pride really shows through that we are proud of our school! I am sure we are all going to miss meeting up with our friends and taking Instagram worthy pictures with Topper The Bear. Good luck to all of our sports teams in the upcoming seasons, who make us proud to be a Topper!

3. Homecoming

Who doesn’t love free snacks and t-shirts on the quad? Homecoming is such a blast when all of our beloved alumni come to visit. It’s great to watch the WLU community to get together for this week’s worth of fun. Many of my favorite memories were made during the various homecoming events. We are sure going to miss pre-gaming at tailgate before the dance and cheering on the football players!

4. Thursday Nights at the Bar

Since most of us head home on the weekend, we have made Thursday nights our time to socialize. There is no need to ask where everyone is going to be; we have made the bar our second home! I think it’s safe to say we all have procrastinated studying and projects to meet up with our friends. All of the school stress won’t even be thought of when you think of all the memories that were made. Thank you for being our safe haven!

5. The Life Long Friendships

West Liberty is such a small school that it is impossible to not get close to your classmates. We have all laughed, cried, and complained together here on the Hilltop. We have consoled each other at our worst and praised each other in our glory. We have friends that we have grown with as people and that makes us a strong community. Even though I am happy to see my classmates succeed, it’s a bittersweet feeling to watch them go. These friendships will last a lifetime, and that is a truly a gift from West Liberty University. Go Toppers!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
