Fall has been and will always be my favorite season! Growing up on the East Coast and having all four seasons meant that I could always shop for new clothes and actually follow the trends. I've always felt bad for the people who live in L.A and struggle to wear a fall sweater because it's always so hot.
Even though it's been pretty hot start to September I know once the leaves start to crisp with the chilling air, I will be rocking all of these styles. There is something so special about fall fashion and back to school shopping, that just makes me giddy with excitement.
Here are the five things that I have seen advertised on basically every trendy clothing website that I think are going to be the staple items for the fall! These can be worn by anyone in any budget, and are less scary versions of their runway counterparts!
1. Mini-Skirts
Skirts are back with a vengeance, especially A-Line mini skirts. There is something so quintessentially fall about this trend, which is why it is number one on my list. This look is a little preppy and put together but is also really easy to dress down with some sneakers. I recommend sticking with either classic denim or black suede and finding one with a button front. I have already seen this trend on campus, either dressed up with a blouse or dressed down with a crop top and those girls have rocked it! This is probably one of the most readily available trends, making its way into most stores and price ranges.
2. '70s Resurgence
They say that fashion is very repetitive and this trend is very indicative of that. Wide-legged pants with boho prints, over-sized ponchos, and fringe are all staples of this trendy look. Plus the trend colors include lots of orange, mustard, teal and burgundy making it perfect to incorporate into a fall wardrobe. Nothing screams fall more than layering, booties and jewel tone colors, which are staples of this look. These clothes are comfy and keep you warm when the temperature dips below the sweltering summer temperatures.
3. Mod Monochromes
Possibly my favorite trend of the bunch, monochrome outfits that only incorporate black, grey and white are also really hot for fall. With so much going on in the other trends in regards to color and texture this trend is my go to because I tend to gravitate towards these colors, but also it is so easy to make an outfit since all of these colors go together. Midi-skirts, loose boxy tops and easy dresses are some of my favorite looks, but you can also play with pattern in the form of stripes. Accessories are usually the main focus of these outfits, which I like because I hardly ever play with accessories. This is so laid back and that is what I enjoy to go for, so I am crazy for this trend!
4. Urban Grunge
I have always admired people who are able to pull off the urban, grunge, effortless look. Unfortunately I am not one of those people, so I will continue to envy those who can. There are no rules with this one as it mixes two separate styles into one. This look is particularly nice becuase it incorporates lots of flannels and sneakers, which are two of the most comfortable items in any closet. It can still be dressed up, with ribbed dresses but the grunge element makes it look so undone and styled even though it is put together. If you are running late to class, this is one of the easier ways to have a fashionable outfit.
A lot of fashion trends can be really complicated and don't focus enough on having good staple pieces. I love that jeans and a white t-shirt can look so put together without trying. I have noticed that although these pieces are basics, they incorporate lots of distressing, textures and layers. I love that lots of people are wearing a simple t-shirt with intricate bralettes and pairing them with distressed and easy going girlfriend jeans. You can catch me wearing this one on my lazy days on campus because even though I don't feel like getting dressed up I still want to look put together. This rounds out the list and gives a fashionable option if you are scared of fashion or looking too trendy!
As with anything, this is not a comprehensive list! Fashion is all what you make of it, so this is not a bible that you need to follow. What I love about fashion is that it is so individual, so you are free to pick and choose what you like to wear and incorporate as much trend as you like in a particular item!
I am excited to see these trend pop up on my campus and equally as excited to go shopping and get some new pieces!
