We've all heard of the idea of a "bucketlist," those big once in a lifetime dreams people write down that they swear to complete before they die. Well, I think there are some key things college students need to do before they graduate college. No, not things like how to be a productive adult, study, or write a paper in MLA format (although you should acquire those WHILE in college). Things like enjoying your youth, making memories that make amazing stories, and finding the love of your life.
1. Go to Lake Superior
Lake Superior is the coldest, deepest, and biggest freshwater lake in the WORLD and it is in the United States. The lake is shared by the province of Ontario to the north in Canada, the states of Minnesota to the west, Wisconsin and Michigan to the south. The water is multiple breathtaking hues of dark blue and green. Although the water is really cold, its beauty outweighs the temperature. You can kayak, swim, fish, sail, and boat for miles and miles and really feel yourself detach from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
2. Run/Walk a 5k
Everyone has something they believe in and want to advocate for whether that be cancer, autism, or something else in between. The beauty about a 5k or any race in general is that you can walk/run for someone or something you care about. Not only is it good for you to get some exercise, but you can do it as a family and become closer with them because you completed it together, and you can go home with a heart full of love because you made a difference in the world just by paying a little bit of money to walk in a race.
3. Get "lost" in the country
Driving in the country makes you stop and appreciate what our big cities used to look like. You'll see rows and rows of corn and soybeans (at least in Indiana) and be thankful for the farmer that planted them. You'll see horses behind picketed fences and children running around and playing with their siblings. You'll see the adorable houses with the white wrap around porches and hanging baskets of flowers decorated all around. Those are a few things I love about driving in the country. You don't have to get literally get lost to enjoy the little things in life.
4. Go to a ton of concerts
Cheap, expensive, alcohol, or no alcohol, go to as many concerts as you can. I have never felt more alive than I do when I'm at a concert with my friends. Whatever the genre, go and live your life to the fullest and soak in the moments because those are the ones that make great stories.
5. Fall in Love
No matter the race, sexual orientation, disability, or religion you may be, fall in love with who you want to. It doesn't have to be forever but fall in love. Find someone that makes you a better version of you and hold on to that person with all you have.
You're only a kid once, so live it up. Live with an open heart and even more open-minded. Do all things you never thought you would do, and buy that one dress you know you shouldn't buy but would feel so confident in. Be you, because no one can be you-er than you.
