5 Things You Know To Be True If You've Grown Up With A Younger Brother
Kaitlyn Craig

Anyone with a younger brother knows what I am talking about here.

1. It's a race to see who gets in the bathroom first

For anyone who has a bathroom they share with their siblings you know the struggle...there have been so many times where I'm about to get in the shower and as I am walking to the bathroom, my brother runs in before I do. Like seriously - all I want to do is take a shower and get clean. Now.

2. It's a battle to see who rides shot gun

Anytime you go somewhere it's a battle between you, your younger brother, and the front seat of the car. Someone may or may not get hurt when wanting to ride in the front seat. You try and take turns riding in the front but it never works.

3. You have to write your name on food that's yours

If you go to a restaurant and bring home leftovers or you go to the store to buy you something to eat, you know better than to leave it unmarked. As soon as you walk through the door, you go straight in and find the sharpie to write your name on every inch of the packaging. If you don't, you know your brother will eat it...then someone is going to die.

4. You can get them to do anything for you

If Mom can't get him to do anything, all you have to do is say something or threaten to take their food away. Teenage boys will do anything to keep their food. If they are scared of you, all you have to do is stand up and tell to do whatever Mom wants them to do and they'll do it.

5. You can play the, "Because I was born first" card

If you want to do anything first or get anything, you know that all you have to do is say, "because I was born first!". Then you automatically win. That card works for everything.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
