I miss you each and every day.

5 Things I Wish I Could Tell My Deceased Grandparent
Sam Arnold

There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of you. The memories I have of you are moments in my life that I hold very close to my heart. I wish more and more every day that I could just call you and tell you about the things that have been going on in my life; you would be so proud.

1. I love you.

I love you with every passing day, and my love for you has never faltered. I feel your love in every little thing that makes me happy, because I feel your presence in happy times.

2. Your memories haven’t faded.

I have so many beautiful memories of you. I have memories that will never leave my head. They encompass certain things that I come into contact with, like O.P. I’s “Italian Love Affair” nail polish; the song “I’m Leavin’ on a Jet Plane” by Peter, Paul & Mary; and the smell of Boudoir perfume. You have made such an impact on my life.

3. I see you in myself every day.

I’m beginning to see parts of your personality intertwined with mine, and I couldn’t be more proud to share such beautiful characteristics with someone so important to me. I see your wits, your sarcasm and your intuition in my own self.

4. I made it to college, and my first clinical will be at a hospital very important to you.

As I attend Carlow University for nursing, I know you’re in heaven looking down on me with pride. You always told me I’d be a wonderful nurse, and that you’ve had your share of “lousy” nurses in your day. When I received news of my clinical placement being in Shadyside, tears filled my eyes. I knew this was a sign from you. You took your last breaths in Shadyside just a year and a half ago, and soon I’ll be walking back in as part of the staff that did everything they could to save you.

5. I know you’re watching over me.

I can see your influence in every decision I make in life. I know you’re here subtly giving me advice in any way you can. Every time I’m having a bad day, I know the beam of sun that shines through the clouds is you telling me to go on. I can hear you saying, “Sammy girl, you better be careful at school. I used to run those streets in Oakland when I was your age!” You’re looking out for me and keeping me safe in any way that you can.

While I would give my entire life for you to have just one more day of yours, I know you’re at peace and happy. I hope you can see all that I do just to make you proud. Rest easy, beautiful soul.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
