Staring into the empty abyss, hoping something, or someone, will captivate your attention. Praying you will be able to get through this agony.
Boredom: We've all been there.
That is why I am here to try and help you out with those boredom spells that seem to hit every so often. Here are some ideas I have rounded up in being entertained:
1. Exercise.
Not only will exercising get your mind focused on something, it does so in a positive and healthy way. Having some source of physical fitness in your life allows you to obtain a greater capacity of happiness, due to you feeling better about your body, as well as knowing you are actually attempting to create a better you. If you can't think of any sort of workout to do, hit up some social media. I use Pinterest for everything, and it's a great source for various exercises. But if you're looking for a bit of a calmer situation, maybe try some yoga (it's my favorite)! This will help you feel better physically, mentally, and spiritually.
2. Read a book.
This is my favorite thing to do, followed by doing yoga. Even if you aren't an avid reader, maybe just attempt to pick up a book. You might actually find yourself completely engrossed. If you don't know where to start, my suggestions include the Flowers in the Attic series by V.C. Andrews, the Maze Runner series by James Dashner, and, of course, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. If you would like more suggestions, check out my article 5 Books That Should Be On Your Reading List.
3. Find some new TV/Netflix shows to binge on.
I'm not a huge TV watcher, but when I do watch TV, it's mainly HGTV, dramatic Lifetime movies, or some sort of bridal show. And yet somehow, my favorite show on TV remains as "Bates Motel." The first time I ever saw a preview for it, I was totally disturbed, but I still decided to give it a try. And now, I have never loved a show any more. Though "Sherlock" is neck-and-neck with it via Netflix. Besides the two mentioned, I would also like to put "Cupcake Wars," "Fixer Upper," "The Office," and the obvious "Friends" out there for you to look into.
4. Develop a new hobby.
Personally, I love experiencing new things and being able to see what I am capable of. That being said, I always like to try different makeup and/or hair looks, drawing something, or even trying out some cooking and/or baking recipes. And guess what--my interest in "just baking something because I'm bored" has led me to starting my own scone business. (I know, it sounds weird.) That being said, try something new! You may end up totally loving it.
5. Do something that benefits your school or work career.
No, your test scores don't define you, but your work ethic and determination say a lot. Though I am a pretty studious student, I still struggle with ending my procrastination of applying for scholarships and colleges. I'm getting stressed just thinking about it. Many of you are probably in the same boat, or if you're a working individual, you might have a big project or presentation coming up that you keep trying to push away. If I can say just one thing: don't. Don't procrastinate any longer! If you have time on your hands to get it done, the do it! There's no time like the present, so make it worth while and boost up your school and/or work performance.
These are the five activities I would suggest you trying out when you've run into a wall of boredom. Can you think of any?
