5 Things To Remember At The End Of The School Year

1. Summer is close

At the end of the year, it is hard to be motivated or interested at all with what all is going on at school. You will most likely just be excited to be home for an extended period of time and it lead you to loose complete interest in everything that is happening at school. Summer will be here quicker than you expect so it is important to live in the moment.

2. Stay focused

At the end of the school year, most people are burnt out and are ready to just sleep in their own beds at home. It is easy to just want to skip classes or club meetings but if you just lose control of your life you will end up being more stressed out during finals week. Also, your grades will, unfortunately, follow you into the next school year so if you completely check out from school now you will only invite more stress for the new school year.

3. Make the most of the year

It is easy to put every tendinous thing you need to do off for next year but this will only lead to you having a stressful fall semester. If you push off having your advising session, declaring your major, applying for a program or joining a club you will make coming back to school sound so miserable that it will be hard to get back on track in the fall. It is easy to get tired of being with the same people or doing the same activities the entire year but remember to be in the moment and make the best out of the end of year activities.

4. You will be back (maybe)

When the school year is ending, it is easy to get sad that you will not live in the same place you have lived in for months, or get sentimental about not seeing the same people. When you are in college you are constantly surrounded by people so the idea of being hundreds of miles away from people you see every day. The summer is long but it is a great time to visit your college friend’s hometowns. Also, unless you are graduating or transferring you will be back for another year.

5. Pack for your later self

When you are packing up your belongs to either bring them home or put them in a storage unit, it is important to spend time making it organized. When you come back from summer break you will most likely be trying to unpack and manage a new schedule. Nobody wants to be consumed with finding your lost things that you thought you packed or looking to see what is broken. When you pack up remember to help your future self out.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
