Everyone has that one friend who either moved away after high school to either go to college or work. And once they leave or you leave (someone always has to leave first) you find yourself lost for a few days but you also find out if they are truly your best friend. Some friends talk non-stop and others, only once in a while but all of these seem to be true no matter the friendship you have with them.
Goodbyes are way too normal.
Goodbyes are hard as is but when you go to a different college than your best friend, especially one that is out of state, it makes them a little harder. But once you say your third or fourth goodbye it becomes a ritual. Spend the last night home with each other talking and laughing about all the good times you shared together not wanting the night to end. But once the sun rises you know it’s time to say goodbye and for some odd reason the tears seem to be less and less each time but the heart ache is still there
Seeing each other may as well be a national holiday.
After almost five months of not seeing each other Thanksgiving or Christmas are more about seeing your best friend rather than the holiday’s themselves. The late nights and adventures that are taken are memories you will never forget, because they can only be had with your best friend who you finally get to see again…but only for a few days or weeks.
They know everything about all your college friends (even if they haven’t met them…yet).
Just because your best friend may be two times zones, seven states, and 2,587 miles away it doesn’t mean that they don’t know every single one of your college friends and everything they have done to affect your life good….and bad, especially bad. But they are the person you go to when you need to vent about that one friend who went on that one date with that one boy you like so much.
Phone calls and Snapchat is the best communication.
Being best friends is one thing but being best friends on Snapchat with a streak higher than your GPA is normal. You can’t go a day without either snapchatting them or calling them when you’re walking across the quad all alone and your mom won’t answer her phone.
They are the first person you text when something happens.
Whether you just failed a super important mid-term or the cute boy at work just asked you out on a date they are the first person you text and tell them about what just happened. You text them when there’s a flood warning or even when you saw that one girl from high school who had a 4.0 just dropped out of college and got engaged. They are your person. They are the person you tell everything and anything to just becacasue well…you can.
