Feel the breeze wooshing past your ears, the leaves crunching beneath your feet, the smell of pumpkin spice in the air. Fall is upon us ladies and gentleman and do you know what that means? It means football season is in full swing. Now that football has been so graciously returned to us, we can start to enjoy the many parts of everyday life that are only fun when America’s favorite game is involved. In case you don’t know about football and its positive effects on the many components of your life, here is a list of all the things that are better with football.
1. Spending Time With Family
Now that summer is over and football season is in full swing, you're going to start spending a lot more time with immediate and extended family. With cold weather keeping everyone indoors and close together, as well as the end of the year holiday season just over the horizon, you'll find yourself frequently caught in less than desirable family interactions. Why get trapped in annoying conversations with your aunts and uncles or forced to spend time with younger siblings and cousins when you can ignore everyone by watching your favorite college or NFL team on TV?
2. Food
The best part about having all the family around is undoubtedly the cornucopia of cuisine varying in flavor and composition. Although my aunts and uncles love to barrage me with questions about school and my future, they also like to barrage me with sandwiches, sides, and lots of delicious desserts. All this food tastes best when you’re devouring it in front of a TV screen watching Sunday night football. Heck you could eat a box of saltines and if you’re watching a Monday night, overtime thriller, those crackers are going to taste like heaven.
3. Commercials
Usually while ignoring your family by watching TV, you will often find yourself distracted by lame, uninteresting commercial interruptions. However, during football season, commercials aren't lame nor uninteresting, and for many people, act as the sole purpose for watching a game at all. The Super Bowl is widely regarded as having the best commercials all year but other games' advertising can be equally as entertaining, featuring popular celebrities and humorous plot lines comparable to some sitcoms.
4. Sundays
A typical week consists of everyone powering through the weekdays to get to the weekend. Specifically for Friday and Saturday. In normal weeks, Sunday acts as a dull, disappointing end to the weekend and beginning of yet another terrible week. But Sundays in football season are a beautiful 24 hour period to chill and watch countless football games from morning to night, and a great way to kickoff the new week.
5. Talking To People
It is a well known fact that most people are very boring. Boring people become even more boring when you have to have boring conversations with them. For some reason, at the end of the year during the period we know as football season, those boring people become magically less boring because they have football to talk about! The possibilities for a fulfilling conversation are endless, from recapping last night’s game, to fantasy talk, to trade rumors. You could sit for hours and talk to someone you otherwise wouldn’t be able to say word to. That’s the power of football baby.
