1. It's okay to openly say what's on your mind
I myself used to fear speaking up especially amongst those I knew. Fear meaning I did not want anyone to be upset with me, ever. I usually kept my opinions to myself or went along with many things I did not want to most of the times if we're being completely honest here. As the years went on, friends came and went. Some stayed and are still there, but I started to realize people really will walk all over you if you don't at least try to stand up for yourself. You speaking your mind will most likely annoy them if they don't agree with what you're saying, but seriously, who cares?
2. You don't have to be best friends with everyone
This statement comes off very abruptly, I know. What I mean to say is, it's okay to have your close friends, even if it's just 2 or 3 people. There is absolutely no need for a huge circle or especially going through the struggle of inviting every single person to every hangout. For sure hangout with different people, you'll learn new things, but never feel bad about finding comfort in your people.
3. Don't let people guilt trip you
Oh my god, do not even get me started on this one. My friends and I have struggled with people guilt tripping us into doing things. It's like the person knows you just cannot say the word "no," and takes full advantage of it. Honestly, guys use the guilt trip card way more than girls do. Of course we all have used it on our parents which we probably shouldn't do, but it happens. I can't emphasize enough how important this one is. Never let anyone make you second guess a choice you made or make you feel bad for it. A person has reached their lowest point when they try to guilt trip you.
4. Put yourself first
I know it sounds like a typical thing every person has heard at least once in their life, but I think this is something I started to learn these past few months. It's not that I never put my needs first before, but I was always so focused on keeping things organized and people around me happy that I forgot how to make myself happy, again. I will always care for my family and friends, but I know now that in order for me to also care for them I must care for myself. Sometimes it's not enough to just be content with yourself. You are first.
5. Really appreciate the beauty of life, nature, and religion
Before I go to sleep, I put my hand on my chest and listen quietly as my heart beats. While sitting in the passenger seat, I roll the window down, stick my arm out, and feel the fresh air on my face. I sit in silence on the janamaz after prayer with my hands in my lap, one of the most peaceful moments in life.
