For years parents and their offspring have quarrels about the way new hips things come along.
"Back in my day we did things this way!"
Here is a list of the top 5 things parents will never understand about their children.
1. The way you and your friends speak to each other.
Sometimes we can be ruthless little shits, but at a young age we find our partner in crime whom understands the way we are. You may act like you hate your bff, but deep down that know it's harmless. Embrace who you are and sleep easy knowing someone does understand you.
2. Why you are so worried about the battery percentage on your phone.
As a child of modern technology, you understand the importance of being able to instantly contact someone. In this day and age, no one calls or writes letters. We shoot each other a quick text explaining with a few words that explains everything perfectly and going about your day. Personally I miss having to awkwardly call someone's house and asking if they are there, but it is what it is.
3. Why you keep up with the latest trends in fashion.
For some reason, our birth givers don't remember their fancy stirrup pants and copious amounts of Aqua Net from their youth. Now instead of being obsessed with Jordache and Levi, we are in desperate need of North Face and Jordan's. Everyone likes keeping up with the newest thing. We all enjoy people looking in awe of the clothes that we own, and how we put them together. Fashion will never die.
4. Why we call each other dude and bro.
New hip lingo comes with every generation. For some of our parents, like totally, and "gag me with a spoon", were highly appropriate. Now it has become custom to use dude or bro in an everyday sentence. "Dude, where are you going?" "Sup bro?"
5. The music you listen to.
This is the one that will stand the test of time. When you start using the phrase "That's not music, it's loud noise!", you've hit old age. (Disclaimer, I hit this age very early in life.) From the era of solely listening to boy bands ad pop, too finding out what really fits your personality type, your parents have hated it. They are constantly worried about how vulgar or lyric lacking the songs you love are. I honestly believe they forget about songs like The Stroke and Pearl Necklace. Said best by the Beastie Boys "Your mom busted in and said, what's that noise? Aw, mom you're just jealous it's the Beastie Boys!"
So now that your parents are looking at this angrily, remember these true words from DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince.
"You know parents are the same no matter time nor place
They don't understand that us kids are gonna make some mistakes
So to you, all the kids all across the land
There's no need to argue, parents just don't understand."
