The moment nine grade started so did the countdown till college.
The day you can leave the house, leave the rules and become independent. No more curfews, no more chores and no more constant supervision. At the time the days never seemed to end, the years dragged by; but looking back now, it seems like it happened in a blink of the eye.
You don’t realize how much you miss the little things; the things you never thought twice about.
1. Laundry
Clean clothes just used to appear washed and folded on your bed, there was never a time to question how it happened. But I assure you the only way that is happening in college is by pure magic. There hits a point where bikini bottoms become fair game until you decide to cough up the $2.25 and a good hour of your time to do laundry.
2. Showering
For 18 years sharing a bathroom with your sister was the worst thing possible. You don’t think it could get worse…until you have to share with a whole floor of girls. Shower shoes will become your new best friend.
3. Food
Cherish every bite of that meatloaf you hate when your mom makes, because its fine dining in comparison to the bland dining hall food you eat day in and day out.
4. Sleep
In high school you’d give an arm and a leg to stay out past curfew, any excuse to not have to be in bed by 10 p.m. In college all of that switches, you will do anything to be in bed by 10 p.m.
5. Family time
Most importantly you realize how much you miss having your parents and you siblings around. You miss the family dinners, the little arguments over who has to empty the dishwasher. But mostly the fact that you get to be with the people who love you more than words can describe.
