After graduating from high school, most soon-to-be-college students cannot wait for all of the freedom and fun that they'll have when they live on their own for the first time. College is amazing, but we often don't realize all of the perks of living at home until we're already gone! Here are 10 things that you likely took for granted before moving away for college:
1. Filtered water from the fridge
It’s so much more convenient than constantly refilling your Brita.
2. Not having to deal with apartment management
Living in a house where your parents pay the mortgage means never having to deal with apartment management that ignores your emails when you have a problem.
3. A yard/lawn

Sometimes living in an apartment or dorm can be suffocating, and it’s during those times that you wish you could go outside and relax in the yard that you don't have.
4. Your parents’ cooking
I enjoy cooking, but sometimes I wish I had my mom or dad around to make dinner for me. This is especially true when I’m super busy studying, doing homework, and/or going to extracurricular activities and don’t have time to cook.
5. Your parents' room being right down the hall
Now, you have to text or call them if you have a question, have something exciting to share, need to vent, or just want to talk.
6. Your pets
This is especially true when you’re stressed or sad and just want to curl up with your cat or dog.
7. Not having to go grocery shopping
When you have to do it yourself, you finally realize why adults consider it such a chore. It’s no longer something fun to do with your mom or dad while you try to convince them to buy four different varieties of ice cream at once.
8. Not having to do your own laundry
It’s really not that difficult, but sometimes it’s the last thing you want to do at the end of a long day and you'd rather just have one of your parents do it for you.
9. Your hometown friends
You never realize how great it is to be able to drive a maximum of 15 minutes to see your childhood friends until they’re suddenly an hour and a half drive away (or even a plane ride away, if you’re really unlucky).
10. Your family
They start to get on your nerves when you still live at home, but moving away makes you realize how much you appreciate and love them.
