The 5 Things That I Miss Since Going To College

With my first year of college coming to an end, I have started to realize that since being in college there have been many things that I found myself longing for. Coming to college means leaving things behind. You leave the home that you have known all your life. You leave the friends that have been with you since kindergarten. You leave your family who have been your #1 fans. There are so many things that get left behind. With experiencing this sensation last fall, these are the top 5 things that I have missed since coming to college.

1. My Pets.

This is honestly the thing that I miss the most since coming to college. The day that I left for college I cried when I had to say good-bye to my pets. I have 3 little dogs and I miss them every single day. I miss waking up in the morning and seeing them. My mom occasionally sends me pictures of them, but it still is not same as having them here with me.

2. My Own Bed.

In college, you learn that dorm beds are not comfortable. Whenever I go home for a weekend or for breaks, there is nothing better than being able to sleep in my own bed. Yes, in college you make your bed comfortable by buying mattress pads and foam pads, but your bed at home is YOUR bed. Honestly, it is the best feeling in the world.

3. My Family.

You think that when you come to college that you are not going to miss family, but that is not true. I genuinely miss my family. Even though they are only a phone call or text away, I miss being up to date with everything that is happening and seeing them all the time.

4. My Friends.

My friends have been with me since elementary school. Leaving them was heart-breaking. When we graduated, we all went our separate ways, but I still miss them like crazy. We keep in touch through texting, phone calls, and letters, but nothing will be as good as the old days.

5. Home-Cooked Meals

Trust me when I say this, you will for sure appreciate all those home-cooked meals. College food can be hit or miss. I recommend that when you come for a weekend or break from college, bring back left overs!!! When you are missing home, it always a great pick-me-up!

Since coming to college, I have begun to truly appreciate the things that I miss.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
