Fall is in full swing on the Western Slope. The temperatures are plummeting, leaves litter the streets, and die-hards are putting up their Presidential candidate yard signs. Whether you are staying home for fall break or coming back from another university, here are a couple of ways to celebrate fall festivities before the last of the leaves blow away.
1. The Audubon Trail
In my opinion, this is one of the most underrated attractions Grand Junction has to offer. The Audubon trail stretches for ten miles along the Colorado River. I wouldn’t classify this trail as a hike, but it is a great stroll to take if you are looking to enjoy the autumn sun and some beautiful fall colors. For all of my college girls, it is also the perfect Instagram opportunity. The best stretch of the trail for the current season is the stretch that branches off of the Redlands Parkway entrance.
2. Main Street
Boys, if you really want to impress your lady, take her downtown for an afternoon outing or a dinner date. Main Street always caters to the current season and boasts the best festivities, so take the time to go see what the shops have to offer for your fall needs. Stop in to Gelato Junction for some festive flavors, visit Seasons to Follow to check out some beautiful fall decorations, or head over to Pollux for some cozy cardigans and accessories.
3. Studt’s Pumpkin Patch
Would this really be an accurate fall article if I didn’t include a pumpkin patch? Studt’s is an awesome destination for all ages. For families, it is best to visit during the day, but if you’re a little more daring, venture to the pumpkin patch after dark for the haunted corn maze. Although Studt’s boasts a pricier admission, its multiple attractions, such as hayrides, pony rides, and a pretty awesome slide, give you a great bang for your buck.
4. Roasted Coffee Shop
Technically, this coffee shop resides downtown, but it’s worthy of its own mention. If you are looking for a little coffee kick or a seasonal drink, Roasted is your go-to destination. Its local feel and hipster vibes truly enhance the coffeehouse experience. From bold espresso to a frozen chai, their menu gives you plenty to choose from. Their sandwiches are nothing to complain about, either.
5. The Grand Mesa
If you are looking to spend some time outdoors, head up to our very own Grand Mesa. Yes, we’re a couple of weeks past Color Sunday, but the trees and dirt roads are still looking as quaint as ever. There are multiple opportunities for hikes, fishing, and biking, so take the hour drive up there and let your adventurous side run wild. For a romantic getaway, consider renting a cabin nestled up against Alexander Lake. With a cozy lodge full of delicious food and Crag’s Crest trail just up the road, you can spend the weekend in one of the most beautiful places Colorado has to offer.
In just a couple of weeks, we will be rolling out the long underwear and snow shovels, so take advantage of the fall climate in Colorado with these enjoyable attractions before it’s too late. Go pumpkin crazy while supporting our local businesses and outdoor activities unique to our wonderful Western Slope.
