5 Things Everyone Should Do Before Move-In Day

After next Saturday, August 20, 2016, my life will never be the same again. Dramatic, but true. Next week I'll be starting fresh at Belmont University in a new state, new school, and with new people. I'm sure I will have changed a lot before freshman year is over. Since my time at home with all my friends and family is coming to an end, there's a few things I've done or will be doing before I leave to commemorate this chapter of my life coming to a close.

1. Forgive that best friend who hurt you

High school is a time where you may have experienced your first heartache. This heartache could have been caused by a significant other or even a close friend (friend breakups are the worst of the two in my opinion). After enough time has passed and when you either one of you aren't so angry or upset anymore, you should forgive this person. There's no use in being angry and bitter with someone because it does more harm to you than them. And who knows? You may be even lucky enough to rekindle that friendship in time for school to start.

2. Meet up with old friends

We all have those friends from elementary school or work that we always make plans with, but they never happen. So before you leave actually make an effort to make it happen. Grab coffee or dinner together. It's nice to see old friends to catch up and reminisce on what brought you together in the first place. You may get to school and forget all about them, so quit putting it off and go see them!

3. Spend time with your parents

It's easy to forget about your parents when you're spending so much time hanging out with your friends. Believe it or not your parents are really going to miss you when you're gone, so make time for them. You'll be happy you spent time with them once you get to school and start missing home.

4. Go on a road trip

Road trips are probably the best thing ever. Grab some friends, an awesome playlists and some snacks and head off somewhere. It could be the lake outside of town or a nearby city, anything goes. Road trips make for great memories and it's a good way to spend time with your friend's before everyone goes their separate ways.

5. Binge watch a show on Netflix

Packing and getting ready for school is super stressful. When things start to become a little too much watch a show to get your mind off things. It'll come in handy for school, too. Bringing up a popular show on Netflix is always a good conversation starter. I suggest Stranger Things.

If you've done all these things and more I think you're more than ready to leave for school. Remember to cherish the time you have left at home, move in day will be here before you know it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
