Every college student has to deal with them. Some are your favorites while others make you dread walking to that one building. Some are simply awful, while others you never want to leave. They're professors. Professors are the sole reason why we can learn what we do in our institutions and for that, we are eternally grateful. Some of our professors have left lasting impressions in a good way; and others in a not-so-good way. No matter how you feel about your prof, here are some things every student wants them to know.
1. You're not our only class.
Yes, we completely get it. Your class is important and we truly want to learn what you're teaching us. But just like this isn't your only class, this isn't ours either. Trust us, we probably wish this was our only class so we could do everything you're requiring us to do with full effort, but cut us some slack. We're 20 year olds who just learned what a bill was.
2. I'm trying my best.
College is hard. Harder than we ever expected it to be. No one prepared us for the mental breakdowns that come along with living on your own and taking care of yourself while being a full time student. We are learning how to be adults. If we don't get that one assignment done, we promise it's not disrespect toward you; we're just trying to make it.
3. I'm sorry.
I'm sorry that I was texting in class. I'm sorry that I spaced out during your lecture and now have no clue what's going on. I'm sorry that I overslept and missed class. We really do appreciate the time and effort that it takes to teach a college course and we really are sorry that it doesn't always come across that way.
4. We're tired.
Being a full time student while having a job and a social life is the most tiring thing that we have ever done. Don't judge us when we come to class and don't look presentable. I promise that it was such a feat just to walk into class. Being an adult is hard and we're tired. Thanks for understanding.
5. We appreciate you.
Teaching college students is difficult. We don't make things very easy for you. We skip class, don't pay attention, send the craziest of emails that you really don't have the time to reply to and yet, you still help us succeed. We don't show you the kind of respect that you deserve. Just know that we thank you.
Profs, we salute you.
