1. Have Fun
Yes studying and getting good grades is a crucial part to college and ultimately if you meet the criteria for your major but also keep in mind to put some time aside to have fun. If that means joining clubs, going to sporting events or events that the university is having, just hanging with your friends, or even having time to yourself. Because like it or not college is a stressful time but as long as you have fun once in awhile all your stress will lift off your shoulders.
2. Stay Organized
You may think this one is a given like your probably thinking to yourself while reading this i’m an organized person no need to tell me twice. But just you wait and see being organized in high school is nothing compared to being organized in college. Especially if you plan on living on campus. You could have a messy roommate that then turns you into a messy person and you could misplace things. Which brings me to another important thing always keep your space clean so you can find things and be able to stay organized.
3. Make Studying A Priority
Just doing homework and your class work isn't going to get you that far because while in high school a high homework percentage could maybe save you in the end that doesn't fly in college. You need to always be studying more then you did in high school too and since every major is different the amount of studying can vary. I know every major can be difficult but since I am a nursing major I find myself studying way more then any of my friends it all depends on your classes. So always put some time aside to study it will do wonders in the long run.
4. Get Involved
If your more on the shy side this tip is for you more than anyone else. If you’ve always been more of a guarded person than i highly advise getting involved at your school. You will meet so many new people and you might even find a passion that you never knew you had. I can tell you first hand that I was very sheltered when I first got to college. I put myself out there and joined some of the clubs and organizations on campus and I immediately met so many more people and got some of the best opportunities. You never know what you can accomplish if you don’t try.
5. Make Sure You Are Passionate About Your Major
When choosing a major there are a few things to keep in mind. First make sure that your college has it before you ever consider going there. Next make sure you are passionate about the subject because if you don’t like it then there’s no way that your going to succeed. Then make sure you have a good reason for going into the field of study because it will give you more motivation to succeed. Finally make sure that you’ve taken a couple classes in high school or from a community college that relates to your major so you what to expect. Lastly if you can say without any doubt that its what you want to do for the rest of your life then your good and if you cannot say that then you need to switch your major ASAP.
You may have been told that high school will be the best four years of your life but those people probably never went to college because college hands down is going to be the best four years of your life. Ive only completed one of my four years but I can already tell you its a blast and I can’t wait for the next three years. So enjoy your college years and make the most of them.
