College is a great experience. It is a time where you learn not just more academia, but more about yourself. It is also the time where you have to grow up, whether you want to or not. This "adulting" can get tiring, though, and it makes you miss home. You're on your own in college, but can be given plenty of helping hands at home. The following is just a few examples on how much simpler everyday things are at home compared to college.
1. The Parking Situation
At home, you park your car right outside of your house. Maybe it's even inside the garage (and therefore protected from any inclement weather). Going out is not a big deal - it's a one-minute or less walk to your vehicle. In college, you pretty much park miles away from the closest edge of campus, which makes it even more miles away from your dorm room. It is such an effort to get to your car. This makes you only go out whenever it is something really necessary or really fun (or if you want a workout). It becomes even more of a workout when you begin wandering the never-ending parking lot, repeatedly honking your horn, because you forgot where you parked (again).
2. The Eating Situation
Let's face it: College cafeteria food will never beat anything that is given to you at home. If you decide to go grocery shopping, that's just the problem: You have to do it. No depending on mom to go to the store and get all of your favorite goodies. You finally understand why she complains about it - it's a lot of work. You run out of food a lot due to laziness. When you finally get the energy to go buy food, it's all junk (oops), because no one is judging your dietary habits. The Freshman 15 is a real thing.
3. The Sleeping Situation
Home is where a bigger, comfier bed awaits. The bed in your dorm room cannot compare. Plus, for many college students, the room in which it is in does not belong only to you. Hello, roommate(s)!
4. The Laundry Situation
Like grocery shopping, you cannot depend on your mom to do your laundry anymore. Even if you do your own laundry at home as well, you do not have to deal with the misfortune of sharing washers and dryers with your whole floor like at college. Get used to doing laundry at odd hours of the day or even night because those are the times when the machines are available.
5. Family Members
They're simply irreplaceable.
