We may not be kids anymore, but October is still our favorite month

As we get older, our childhood starts to fade into the distance. The fun experiences we had as children, are now replaced with adult responsibilities. Now that fall has arrived, a lot of us have probably looked back on how we celebrated Halloween. The traditions we grew up with made October even more enjoyable. Here are five things that adults miss about Halloween.

1. Picking out a costume

Picking out a costume was considered the most important part of the Halloween tradition. It was your time to wear something unique and fun, that you could never wear to school on a daily basis. Also, we all had to model our costumes in the Halloween parade at school, so picking out a great costume was crucial. All of our friends and parents would see us in our costumes, and take pictures of us parading around the school. It was a fun day that we all looked forward to.

2. Decorating

Decorating got us all in the Halloween spirit. Whether it was wads of tissues shaped like ghost or carving pumpkins outside, these crafts were fun. Everyone knew when Halloween was approaching because houses would be decorated with cob webs and pumpkins. The atmosphere that was being created made us excited for the month of October. Now, we still continue the tradition of decorating our houses, and maybe some of you still carve pumpkins with your children. It makes the build up of anticipation for Halloween even more exciting.

3. Trick or treat

It is very unfortunate that as we get older, we stop getting excited about trick or treating, and overall stop participating. Our childhood traditions were a build up to this moment, and now we are the ones passing out candy. We no longer go shopping for our unique costumes, and get asked by our neighbors, "what are you dressed up as?". In a way though, we are still carrying on the tradition of Halloween by playing the role of "neighbor with the best candy". We now shop for the best candy to give out to the kids in our neighborhood.

4. Scary movies

Now most of us probably still watch scary movies in October, but when we were young, we truly looked forward to the movies that were shown on TV. A classic that we all watched was, "Charlie Brown and The Great Pumpkin". It got us all in the Halloween spirit, and it was a very cute move. Every night we would sit in front of our television screens and wonder what movie would come on next. It prepared us for the month of October, and made Halloween even more enjoyable.

5. Haunted houses

Once again, some of us may still go to haunted houses, but haunted houses have changed since we were young. When we were younger, we were easily scared by ghosts and monsters. Now, those things do not scare us as much. However, haunted houses across the nation have taken Halloween to the extreme. While these haunted houses are not appropriate for young children, they do frighten adults as well. It seems like these haunted houses connect more with our true fears, whether it is blood, deranged killers, or psychological fears. However, our childhood haunted houses are still missed.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
