Though the summer of 2016 was unquestionably full of some amazing songs (most of which are on repeat for me as of right now), there are some songs that have been, without a doubt, overplayed and therefore need some serious dismissal.
Before I say anything else, I am by no means throwing shade at any of these artists, I am simply throwing a little shade at the people who keep requesting these songs to be played on top 40 radio when there are so many more songs to choose from. With that out of the way, it's time to take a look at the hits that have overstayed their welcome.
1. twenty one pilots - "Stressed Out"
I must emphasize that I adore Twenty One Pilots and their work. Keeping that in mind, it is because of that that I have a problem with the constant replaying of this song. Twenty One Pilots has a variety of deep, hard-hitting songs that are just as amazing, if not more, than the angsty hit "Stressed Out", and it's a shame that their other work isn't getting as much attention as this song has.
2. Sia ft. Sean Paul - "Cheap Thrills"
While this song has a distinct, catchy beat, the reality is that with how long its been at the top of the charts, the airplay is out of control. The bright side? Sean Paul appears to be making a come back after disappearing into oblivion following the popularity of his song "Temperature".
3. P!nk - "Just Like Fire"
An empowering tune with a strong message, P!nk knows better than anyone what the music industry is like and how to navigate it. With that being said though, I look forward to hearing more of her new work as opposed to just this song.
4. Mike Posner - "I Took A Pill In Ibiza"
The original version of this song with just Mike and his guitar is close to perfection, but on the other hand, this heavily edited, drowned out version of his song needs to take a permanent break from Top 40 radio. I cannot emphasize this enough.
5. Adele - "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)"
I must admit I have never been the biggest Adele fan, and this song hasn't done much to change that. While halfway decent at first, the constant replaying after just about every commercial break has ruined any chance this song has to grow on me. What else do you have in store, Adele?
I must emphasize yet again that I mean no disrespect or shade towards any of these artists, for at some point they all have released songs that I can't get enough of. Hopefully as summer draws to a close, we get to hear a batch of new songs to set the scene for winter.
