Over my Spring Break this week, I visited Disney World for the first time in 5 years. This was my first visit as an adult, and I slowly realized that not everything was as magical as it had seemed before. As great as this place is, everything has some flaws. I really do love visiting this place, but there are some things that I should warn you about so you can prepare to have the best experience possible.
1. The Florida heat
Everyone knows that going to Orlando means that temperatures are going to be much warmer. It sounds really nice until you actually get there and one o'clock rolls around. The sun is scorching and the only way to cool off is to go on an indoor ride or inside a building somewhere. Not only can you feel the sun's heat, but you also have the ability to get a major sunburn. If you're anything like me, you will at least get some sun on your shoulders and maybe your face. Although as bad as some of it can be, I would much rather prefer the warm weather to cold weather.
2. The standing and walking
If you only spend one whole day walking around a Disney World park, you are bound to have super sore feet by the end. Whether you're smart and wear comfortable shoes or make the mistake of wearing flip flops with no support, it is really hard for your feet to not hurt after all of the walking you do. In one day alone, I walked 10 miles total. From waiting in lines, to walking from ride to ride, you cover a lot of space and it can definitely take a toll on your body.
3. The people
Disney World is one of the most famous places to visit in the United States. That means that it attracts all different types of people from all over the world. Everyone has a place they want or need to be and everyone wants to get there as fast as they can. Unfortunately, this means that you may get pushed, bumped into, or hit by a stroller or two during your time there. Some people have been worn out by the sun and some are just plain hangry, and it doesn't always bring out the best in people. Try your best to be understanding as well as polite to others around you. It can make the experience a lot more fun!
4. The lines
Like I said earlier, tons and tons of people come from all over to visit Disney World. There is so much to do there, but because so many people want to do the same things as you, there will be lines. Depending on what time of the year you go, the length of the lines will vary. A great idea is to get FastPasses to skip a big portion of the lines and get on the ride faster. Get them for the more popular rides, but get them early because they can run out quick.
5. Too much to do and not enough time
The thing that makes me saddest is that Orlando has so much to offer, but I never have enough time to do everything I want. My family has always gone to Disney at least once every 5 years for about a week, and I still haven't done everything. One of the main reasons for this is that they are constantly building new things and changing the old things. Every time I go, there is something new to do and something old is different. I love seeing the differences from time to time. As great as this place is, I wish I could visit more often!
