You're just strolling along, minding your own business, maybe getting ice cream with some friends or just on a light jog when, out of the corner of your eye, there it is. Its collar making that jingly collar noise, its ears flopping about with every step, its feet (probably too big for it now since it hasn't grown into them yet) hitting the sidewalk with zero percent coordination and one hundred percent adorableness - its the cutest damn dog you have ever seen. We've all experienced it, we've all been ambushed by the cuteness that is puppies you aren't expecting to see, so here's a little play by play of what happens when you see a cute dog on the street.
1. Shock
This is the stage where your body doesn't want to do anything else but stop and stare at the adorable fluff that is in your eye line. You stop moving, you stop speaking, and sometimes you start crying a little (not speaking from experience at all on that one, nope).
2. Small Vocabulary
The only vocabulary you have is "aw" or "dog" or "puppy." This is when literally the only words that come out of your mouth are "aw" "dog" and "puppy." Sometimes even consecutively.
3. The Pull
This is the part when it feels like every force in the universe is pulling/pushing you toward that little tiny puppy. It's a pretty overwhelming feeling.
4. The Brain Battle
This might be the hardest part. This is when you have that internal battle with yourself on whether to be a mature adult and just walk along pretending that adorable ball of cuteness means nothing to you OR you give into the childish soul in you and run over, get on the ground, and play with that adorable ball of cuteness that's following you with its sad puppy eyes as you pass by basically screaming "please play with me." Yeah, it's pretty hard.
5. The Ultimate Give-In
Who am I kidding? YOU ALWAYS PLAY WITH THE PUPPY. DUH.
Some advice from me to you, one dog lover to another:
Never pass up an opportunity to play with an adorable puppy when the universe places one magically in front of you, especially when you least expect it. Puppies brighten days, make things feel OK even if it's just for five seconds, and are just the cutest damn things you could ever imagine. So the next time you see a little tiny dog on the street, please give-in and get some puppy lovin'. I promise you won't regret it.
ALSO! If you thoroughly enjoy seeing puppies on the street but don't run in to as many as you'd like to in real life, the instagram account that all the photos featured in this post are from is called @thedogist and it's a bunch of photos taken of dogs the photographer runs into in his daily life, so check it out and see all the cute puppies imaginable!
