1. Denial
When you come to the realization that you want a fresh start the hardest thing you will have to do is tell your friends and family. Getting accepted to your (new) dream school is very exciting, but it's understandable to hesitant to tell everyone because you don't know how they're going to react. Leaving your best friends behind and starting over is a very hard thing to do, but they will always love and support you, no matter what school you're at.
2. Anger
Then you get all of your paperwork submitted to your new school and you realize you're basically a freshman again because you have to go through orientation and all of the online education courses. You try and get around campus and have absolutely no idea where you're going, so you have to save the google maps of your campus on your phone. Then when it comes to registering for classes you realize you have to fight with freshman for seats... when you're an upperclassman.
3. Bargaining
You start missing your friends at your OG school, and start texting to plan times to visit... but it's college and everyone is way to busy, so you have to negotiate the best arrangement for the whole group. Then they say "if only you didn't transfer we could hangout more." But then you explain that it was the best choice, and you still love them even though you're far away.
4. Depression
You get to midterm season and question why you even decided to transfer. you went through multiple midterms and finals at your old school and you knew what to expect, but now the learning curve is huge. You don't know many upperclassman at your new school, so you don't know who to ask about professors or exams... So you go to office hours all the time on top of numerous hours of studying outside of class. You pull all nighters, just because you don't know if you're prepared enough, and you end up drinking multiple cups of coffee to get through the day.
5. Acceptance
After a while you come to understand that transferring was the best decision you have ever made! You miss your friends, but you know they will always be there for you. Your classes become less intimidating as you get the hang of your new school. Eventually, you get more involved on campus and start to make new friends! All in all, it was a good change, and you will be happy you made it!
