Stage one: Denial
This is the stage where you first see your grade and think to yourself "surly this can't be right." or "he probably hasn't added the curve from that exam we took 5 weeks ago." or my personal go-to "the professor probably hasn't entered all the grades yet."
Stage two: Anger
This is the stage where it starts to sink in that you are going to take an L for this class. Your initial reaction is that it's the professor's fault. I mean how did he expect you to pass this class in the first place? He is obviously out to get you and strives for your failure. It's very clear that he is what's wrong in this world.
Stage three: Bargaining
This is the stage where you take out your computer, pull up your email, and start getting creative. "Professor, I know you are receiving hundreds of these emails, but I promise you that I did those assignments that I had zeros on." or "I did go to class those five days that it says I didn't. My clickers just wasn't working." or "I'll do an extra credit assignment if you just round my grade from a 56 to a 90."
Stage four: Depression
So it's finally sunk in. You now fully realize that your GPA is done for. Whereas a few months ago you had hopes of Dean's List, you now know that those dreams are in the past. You start reevaluating every decision you've ever made. "Maybe if I would've studied instead of going to 50 cents shot night, it wouldn't have come to this."
Stage five: Acceptance
It's time. All that's left is for you to accept it. Go treat yo self to some drinks and move on. You now know the necessary steps in order to do better next semester. Are you going to take those steps? Probably not. But hey, C's get degrees.
