Dear Spring,
I can feel you coming – the temperature has been on the rise and the sun’s rays are peeping through the clouds regularly, melting the remaining patches of snow and my cabin fever. Branches and bushes and bramble will green soon; I’ll be able to leave my apartment without a heavy jacket, which means it’s almost time to say goodbye to sweaters, fuzzy socks and long johns.
Plus, fashions have been debuting in Paris, New York and Milan, so I know you're almost here.
Ring in the new season by bringing these top spring trends from the runway and into your closet without breaking the bank:
1. Ruffles & Pleats
Gucci | Contemporary Pleated Skirt from Forever21
Ruffles always provide a dainty, feminine touch, as does pleats. These two textural styles work together to give your spring season a bit of sophisticated flair and are great in both dress-up and dress-down settings: whether you’re on your way to work or a festival, this trend is full of movement and reserve.
2. Lingerie
Alexander Wang | Tiger Dress from Tobi
Take the fun out of the bedroom and onto the street – the runway this spring was filled with For Love & Lemons-like pieces, where sheer and lace came together to give this spring a more daring bohemian, flower-girl vibe. These pieces are romantic.
3. Bright Colors
Erin Fetherston & Marissa Webb | Dress from Tobi
Apparently orange really is the new black – in New York, multiple designers debuted work in all but one color, so be on the lookout for pops of bright colors.
4. Classic Stripes
Ralph Lauren | T-Shirt from J-Crew
This one isn't anything new. Stripes are always fun, sleek and functional. Layer them up. Vertical, horizontal, asymmetric, diagonal – all kinds of stripes are in so have fun getting nautical!
5. Welcome to the 1800s
Alexander McQueen & Erdem | Victoria Dress at Urban Outfitters
Way too excited about the fact that the Victorian Era is making a comeback (no, really). Take on a timeless look by drawing upon your inner-regal and dressing like a queen. Puffy shoulders, coifed necklines, shimmering fabrics, and ribbon are great ways to draw on this period of English history.
Happy shopping!
