Being the end of November, college students are preparing for the dreaded amount of finals which will conclude many stressful semesters for students everywhere. One coping mechanism students use to survive the remaining time left in the semester. With that being said, here are five songs worth giving a listen as finals season commences.

1. "1998" by Chet FakerKnown for it's interesting beat and pace, "1998" is a combination of various sounds and rhythms that are sure to get your feet tapping under that coffee shop table that you have been stuck under for the last hour or two. It's a happy song and happiness is often a relief in times of stress.

2. "Happy Accidents" by Saint Motel

For the more sentimental, this song is a calm one by the up and coming group Saint Motel. (Sidenote: this group will probably take over the world.) Their #1 song "My Type" was made famous within the last year and they keep pushing the bar. "Happy Accidents" is a delightful little song about the possibilities of life and how small events can impact your life in the most monumental ways. Definitely a good song to listen to when stressed to the max. This song melts away stress.

3. "Déjà Vu" by Runaway Weekend

For When you need to power through a lecture from six weeks ago that you are so sure you slept through and you need motivation, listen to this song. It builds up and up and up and drops all at once. The sound is incredible and somehow empowers you. Although way too short, the song is worth a listen especially when in need of a calmer song that will keep you moving forward while studying.

4. "Afterhours" by Troyboi feat. Diplo & Nina SkyThis song should be known as the study break song. Although it won't get you head banging in a coffee shop, it might get your body rocking and stretching out from a long study session. The repetitive lyrics make it easy to learn and the drops and sounds make it a fun little song to dance to after hours of studying.

5. "Sedona" by Houndmouth

If you have yet to see an Arizona sunset, I recommend you listen to this song and if you enjoy the words, buy a ticket and come on out to experience one. That being said, this song is a relaxing one. After a long day of studying, burn a candle, draw a bath, make your favorite snack, and turn this song on. Instant relaxation.

"I've only slept nine hours over the past four days, so I'm right on the verge of a nervous breakdown." - Leslie Knope

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
