We all know that feeling: When there is just too much homework, when everyone else seems to have their lives together, and when the next break feels really far away. Then that thought crosses your mind... "I should just drop out now." No! Don’t do it. It might sound like a good idea, but get that thought out of your head. When I am feeling the drop-out vibes, I have some songs to help me get back to business.
1. "One Man Can Change the World" by Big Sean, Kanye West, and John Legend
Sometimes when school gets hard, it is easy to forget how lucky we really are. Big Sean’s grandmother was a captain in WWII, policed the streets of Detroit, and raised a family. Sure school is hard, but doing all she did in the 1960s was probably harder. If she can change the world, so can I and so can you.
2. "Stressed Out" by twenty one pilots
I know that at my school, the pressure to measure up to your peers is immense. Everyone has two majors, a minor, and three internships. That is overwhelming, and it can make you feel self-conscious. Tyler and Josh know that feeling. We were supposed to be comfortable with ourselves by now, but it’s okay that we’re not.
3. "Back to Back" by Drake
It is impossible to not get hype when you hear the ultimate dis track. Honestly, this song just has so many hilarious one-liners at Meek Mill’s expense. It always reminds me that I want to be the Drake in life, not the Meek Mill.
4. "Ain’t it Fun" by Paramore
As much as college is about education, it is also about learning how to be an adult. Hayley Williams lets us know that we have all felt the pain of growing up. Independence and adulthood can kind of suck, but it makes me feel better knowing that other people feel that pain too.
5. "Fancy" by Drake, T.I., and Swizz Beatz
Don’t we all want to be the type of girl Drake wants? This song is an ode from Drizzy to the boss b*tches who make their own and have their own. College graduates fall under that umbrella. Stick it out for that degree—it’s what Drizzy would want.
Dropping out of school is not the answer. You can do it, I swear. Just because Kanye is a college dropout doesn’t mean you should be too.
