If you're anything like me, summer means being able to roll down the windows and blast music as loud as your car can handle. Sadly it's not summer quite yet, but the anticipation is mounting and with that excitement comes the playlist planning. You want a song to fit that feeling you get during summer, whether you spend it sitting on the beach, going for a drive, or, sadly, working. Here are some suggestions:

1. Brand New- Ben Rector

The upbeat and positive vibe given off by this song really embodies summer. Listening to it makes you want to dance and sing along. Ben Rector’s website says this song feels anthemic and after one listen, you can see why.

2. Alaska- Maggie Rogers

You can also refer to Maggie Rogers as the girl who stunned Pharrell with her music during a master class. She released an EP recently, all of the songs are highly recommended. This song, in particular, is tremendously infectious with a beat that truly unique.

3. Free- Graffiti6

This song has been my go-to summer song for multiple years now. It is a mix of many different types of music that draw you in right from the start however it also seems quite simple. The amount of time I’ve spent singing along to this song is reason enough to put it on this list.

4. Way Down We Go- Kaleo

Starting off slow this song soon transforms into a heavy beat that makes you want to bob your head. I would dare to call this angsty, in a good way, but is perfect for if you are working over the summer yet dreaming of being elsewhere.

5. Tongue Tied- Grouplove

An oldie but a goodie. This is literally just a party wrapped up into one song. With its bouncy tempo and the blend of sounds, it is a song that begs to be danced to.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
