Have you ever have a really bad day? And no, I don’t mean you spilled coffee on your shirt, or a car drove by and splashed a rain puddle all over you on your way to class. I’m talking about a stressfully bad day when it feels like the weight of a million bad days is sitting on your shoulders. In the past when these days have hit me there is one simple solution to lighten my mood even just a little bit. Listening to music. Here are five of my favorite songs to listen to when I am having a rough time that either provide me with comfort or let my mind wander away from the stress of the day. So, if you’re having one of those terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days consider checking out these tunes to put a smile on your face!
1. Sleep On The Floor –The Lumineers
I love this song because it really encourages a sense of adventure in young teenagers as it depicts a couple that runs away together. It leaves so much room for interpretation and creativity for the listener. Check out the music video for this one too, it doesn’t disappoint.
2. Castle on the Hill –Ed Sheeran
The reason I love this song so much is because it tells a story. It is very relatable to high school and college students, so obviously very relevant to my current age. I find it comforting because it makes me think about the experiences I had when I was growing up.
3. Humble and Kind –Tim McGraw
For all you country lovers out there, this one is for you. I respect Tim McGraw so much for this song because it addresses a lot of things that I think we forget about when we are caught up in ourselves. It is so important to keep a good head on your shoulders but at the same time be a respectful person to others.
4. Note to Self –Ben Rector
I am a huge fan of Ben Rector mainly because a lot of his songs are very relatable to real life. This particular song is very interesting because it reminds you of how important it is to be thankful for everything you are given in life. It also speaks about how you should always stay true to who you are not trying to be anyone else which will always be a crucial message.
5. Kill A Word –Eric Church
Bad day or not, this song is a must hear for sure. Eric Church sings about all the ways he would kill words that hurt people if he had the chance. I think this song has a very powerful message and anyone could benefit from listening. Sometimes people say things that they aren’t aware are offending someone else and this song emphasizes how important it is to choose words carefully.
