As a more-than-half-way-done-with-college student, I can’t help but feel sad sometimes when I think about graduating and growing older. I think about the “real world,” then reminisce on my childhood, home movies, *insert other emotional memory here*, etc. I mean, yes I am incredibly excited about how my life will play out after graduation, but I am more than thankful for the moments I have to look back on and remember. This doesn’t only mean my childhood, I am talking about literally anything that has happened in the last five minutes. I am grateful and would not trade my experiences for anything. Join me for a fast trip down [your own personal] memory lane, will you?
1. "Time”- The Mowgli’s
I will forever be thankful for my high school best friend for introducing me to this song following my first major breakup. I was depressed about the time I thought I had wasted. The awesome thing about this song is that this guy is mad about how fast life goes, too and it makes you realize you’re not the only one.
2. “The Best Day” – Taylor Swift
Come on, who doesn’t miss their mom almost every day of their life even if it has only been a day since you have seen her? PLUS this video is made of up freaking T-Swizzle home movies and it is all too real. Be ready to call your ma after watching this. Admit it, she’s [yo momma] the best.
3. "Stop This Train" - John Mayer
Oh, John. Why must you always be tugging at our heartstrings and be so amazing? (Well, with your songs anyway, not with T-Swfit, apparently.) If you are scared of growing up and never want to see your parents go, just get up real quick and grab a box of tissues before you listen.
4. "Take A Picture Of It" - Amber's Drive
Alright, so this is a personal video I made because Amber's Drive is a local band. However, it is by far one of my favorite songs about appreciating every second. Also, it is a wonderful song to make a personal slide show and cry a little, amirite? You don't even have to watch the video part, just listen to the tear-jerking lyrics. Oh, and who doesn't love supporting local bands?
5. "Vienna"- Billy Joel
This song is basically saying stop trying to rush your life. BJ is telling you that you have your whole life to do what you want, why wish it away? Also, this is the song “13 Going On 30” plays when Jennifer Garner is balling her eyes out when she is going back home and that is kind of my favorite movie, so it is basically a given emotional breakdown when I listen to this.
6. “Never Grow Up” – Taylor Swift
Yeah, Taylor makes it in this list twice. But seriously, from the very beginning of this song you can automatically tell it is meant to make waterfalls burst out of your eyes. It is so sweet and true and *sniff sniff*, T-Swift why you gotta bring my stupid embarrassed by my parents phase into this? I AM SORRY MOM AND DAD! Don’t make me grow up. (Insert crying emoji here.)
So, yes. If you just had a weird moment of feeling incredibly sad, but also strangely happy while listening to these, you’re not alone. And if some tears were just shed? Well, hopefully you were alone or with other people who won’t judge you for being slightly emotional about this crazy fast life. Life is life. Let’s have the time of our lives.
