There are some couples that go down in history as classics; Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella and Prince Charming, Rose and Jack, Jasmine and Aladdin and let's not forget about Jim and Pam.
Jim and Pam's budding relationship began in 2005, when NBC aired their newest TV series, "The Office." Their budding relationship bloomed into a romance across nine seasons. A love like theirs is what every couple dreams of for their future. Here are five ways to tell if you're almost there!
1. You laugh together.
From the start, Jim and Pam's relationship focused on humor. Whether they were duping Dwight, mocking Michael or just generally joking about someone in the office, they were always having fun. They had inside jokes and could always be seen chuckling at each other, which created an important dynamic for the couple. If you can't laugh at and with each other you are missing out; laughter is proven to help relieve stress and increases your immune system. Having a giggle with your partner will bind you together and increase your happiness.
2. You're best friends.
Jim and Pam spend the whole first season as strictly friends. Their romance blossomed so well because they were best friends first. Sometimes we forget how important friendship is to any relationship. Your best friend knows you like the back of their hand. The know all your quirks and can read your face like a book with large text. This openness creates bonds through trust.
3. You've made it past that one family member.
In every relationship, you will find at least one family member or friend that flat out doesn't like you. In Jim and Pam's relationship, this was Pam's great-grandmother. She wasn't a fan of Jim when at their rehearsal dinner he accidentally announces that Pam is pregnant, however, Jim pushed on and by the end of the season, she doesn't dislike him quite as much. Someone close to your special someone is always going to think there is someone better for them than you. The only thing you can do about that is proving them wrong; it may take some time, but you'll get past that phase eventually.
4. You work as a team.
Something I always admired about Jim and Pam was the ease in which they mocked Dwight one minute then turned around and maneuvered two children. They worked as a team before their relationship started, so it's easy to see how it benefited their romantic relationship. Even if it's just figuring out who's driving to dinner, learning to work as a team helps everyone in the long run. Remember, teamwork makes the dream work!
5. You grow together.
Through all nine seasons of "The Office," we see Jim and Pam grow not only as a couple but as individuals. Pam becomes a sales associate and begins to follow her dreams of becoming an artist. Jim starts a new company with some colleagues and, by the end of the last season, is very successful. In the midst of their relationship, they both still grew as individuals in addition to as a couple. Sometimes we forget that personal growth is just as important as growth within our relationship. Remember the couple that grinds together shines together!
So there you have it, Jim and Pam's secrets to a perfect relationship. Even if you and your honey aren't quite there yet fear not, as your relationship evolves you'll spot these traits popping up (it took Jim and Pam nine seasons to get there). Who knows, maybe you and your special someone will the next Jim and Pam.
