It's mid-September, and it's around this time of year when upperclassmen and other leaders of your school do everything in their power to get freshmen involved whether it be sports teams, Greek life, clubs or other obscure organizations on campus.
It can be an incredibly overwhelming and tiring process (it was for me), but ultimately you may find one or two activities you enjoy. Here are five signs that you may have gone through the same thing.
1. Your dorm room is cluttered with miscellaneous free stuff.
Whether it's from the clubs you actually signed up for, or the ones you don't even remember, you probably have a higher-than-usual amount of free pens, water bottles, maybe a tote bag in your room. Do you need any of it? No. Will you still keep all of it? Of course.
2. Your emails are insane.
The only way you manage to remember what you signed up for is by looking through your email inbox, which likely has amassed 40-50 new emails since your school's event.
3. You definitely signed up for something you don't care about.
You might've been coerced by a convincing club president, drawn in by a clever poster, or maybe just made eye contact with someone at a booth for too long, but you definitely didn't plan on signing up for rugby and you're blanking on why you did.
4. You now have 20+ meetings to go to, and you'll maybe go to half of them.
You probably don't remember where or when everything is scheduled, so you might miss a few. However, it is important to go to the meetings for organizations you're really passionate about.
5. You eventually find that one club you're interested in, but you have to weed through a lot of them.
At events as hectic as Club Days, it can be hard to really focus on what you're interested in. Even if you think you won't find something you enjoy, or if you feel as though you have to get involved in EVERYTHING, just know that if you're anything like me, you'll find one or two things that you're really invested in, and they'll motivate you to be a more active participant in campus life.
