5 Signs That Spring Semester is Coming to an End

Spring semester is great. Summer is almost here, the weather is getting warmer, and the world just seems like a better place. Here are some tell tale signs, that you have almost made it through the year.

1. Shorts and Tank Tops.

People seem to insist on wearing the most summer-oriented outfits they own, even on the coolest of spring days. It's like some people feel that dressing the part of warm weather will make it just magically happen. Unfortunately this is not the case, most of the time, you are cursing yourself for choosing to wear shorts on what was supposed to be that beautiful 65 degree day, and end up soaking it up on what ends up being a 50 degree rainy mess. Nothing makes me more annoyed than seeing some girl wearing literal booty shorts on a cold day. The sun being out does not justify your fashion choices.

2. Impossible to Study.

Something about spring semester makes one realize how amazing nature truly is. Whether you basking in the spring sun rays day drinking, or taking advantage of the beautiful parks and hiking trails surrounding the school, that had been arctic wastelands a month prior. Something about sunny days and a moderate climate makes it so much harder to justify spending time inside studying.

3. Who are you people?!

What is it about warm a day that has people crawling out of the woodwork? There are approximately 200% more people on campus on sunny days, and everyone seems genuinely happy to be there, rather than hunched over and bundled up running to their classes and out of the arctic chill. People are more prone to stop and talk, and the entire atmosphere of campus seems to change from one of wintery contempt to that of sunny contentment.

4. Finals Approaching.

Finals during spring semester always seem to be more difficult to get through. It probably has a lot to do with our inability to focus being inside, with the sun shining through the windows and reminding us how sad our lives truly are. Another theory would be how burned out everyone seems to be. We have made it through almost an entire year of school, and all the bullsh*t that comes with it, and now they expect us to spend another entire week stressing over exams and classes. Personally, my brain stops functioning the moment the weather gets warmer and unfortunately my spring semester grades and final exams always seem to reflect that.

5. Home is Near.

Going home actually becomes a thing again. Instead of looking forward to weekend jaunts back to your hometown for meals that don't come buffet style, or the thought of getting to sleep in your own bed, it becomes a subject of stress. You have to find a job, make summer plans, figure out who you even speak to from high school anymore that you can spend time with, or reconnect again if you cut them all off. Lastly, you have to leave your friends from school, and its like everything you know is changing once again. It's so exciting to go back to a familiar place and feel like a more permanent part of your family again, but its sad to know all the bonds you have made over the past year are going to have to wait another three months to begin again.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
