I've grown up being told that I am an "old soul" whatever that even means. It doesn't really sound like a super fun compliment to be given! I want my soul to be as young, fresh, and swaggy as I am. But being an old soul does not mean that you're a grandma in a teenage body, it simply means you see this world through wise eyes.
1. You drink A LOT of coffee
Coffee is my go-to drink when my day is lacking in any department. It perks me up and gives me an extra sha-bang to go throughout my day with joy and kindness. Older people understand the power of coffee and for some reason try to hide it from the youngsters of the world. Too bad us old souls caught them in their mischievousness.
2. "You're So Mature."
If you have grown up constantly hearing this statement then you're most likely an old soul. My mom even went so far as to tell me one day that I need to start acting more like a teenager and less like an adult. That's right.. I am every mothers dream child. I snuck out of my cabin the next week at church camp just to show her what was up.
3. You watch "adult" shows
If you didn't waste your time on cartoons and shows about animals then you probably are an old soul. Don't get me wrong, I still love a good episode of Hannah Montana, but I tend to stick to more grown up shows such as 'Friends'... such a mature show.
4. You are the mother of your siblings
I was always the one out of my sisters who wanted to boss everyone around. I tried my best to be the peacemaker when my older sister was beating up my youngest, and I was the hostest with the mostest when people came over. These controlling qualities make me an old person in a young body.5. "I can't wait to grow up."
I said these words about 20 times a day while I was growing up. Drove my mother crazy because every time I uttered the words she would reprimand me tell me to enjoy being young while I could. I couldn't wait to be in high school, then I couldn't wait to drive, then I couldn't wait for prom, and after that I couldn't wait to go to college. The funny thing is that now I wish I would've embraced every part of the silliness of childhood instead of rushing to boring adulthood.
Being an old soul is such a blessing in disguise. It doesn't mean you're not immature, silly, or loads of fun (because I am all of those things) but it does mean that you know what wisdom is and you use the little bit of it that God so graciously blessed you with.
