5 Signs My Roommate Is Actually My Twin

5 Signs My Roommate Is Actually My Twin

Surviving the freshman year random roommate assignment is always an accomplishment. Whether you lucked out like I did and got paired with the best roommate ever, or you dreaded returning to your dorm every day, you deserve a trophy just for being able to live with a complete stranger for an entire year. At some point, you end up finding that special someone you could see yourself brushing your teeth next to for two semesters or more. Or in my case, you find someone who is basically your clone.

Here are the signs that confirm my observations that my roommate and I share the same DNA:

1. People say we look alike.

Not sure if this is actually a good thing or a bad thing, but people constantly ask my roommate and me if we’re related. Maybe it’s because we both have blonde hair or maybe it's because we sometimes end up wearing a similar outfit (it’s actually happened a couple times), but hey at least that means I get to borrow someone's clothes because of it.

2. We have the same sleep schedule.

My roommate and I are in bed, makeup off and PJs on by 10 p.m. the latest each night (I know, this is very rare on college campuses). Meanwhile, I have other friends who don’t go to sleep until 2 a.m. -- I would never be able to survive that. Thankfully, my roommate and I value our precious downtime, and we don’t have to worry about the other one making too much noise while we are trying to sleep.

3. We planned our room décor over Christmas break the previous year.

At some point during the first semester of our freshman year, my current roommate and I relished the idea that we would get a room together. We loved the idea so much that we started planning theme ideas for our future dorm- one semester in advance! I remember having frequent text conversations with her about the importance of color coordination and decorating for each holiday.

4. Our room is always filled with laughter.

Getting cheesy for a moment, I know I can always count on my roommate to make me laugh; I’m certain that she is the funniest person I know. Whether we’re both up to our heads in homework or in bed on our phones before we fall asleep, she always says something that forces out my embarrassing hoot of a laugh.

5. We share the same taste in EVERYTHING.

She made me listen to -- and learn to love -- my first rap song. I think of ordering Chinese food the same night she really wants takeout. We spend our Friday afternoons watching makeup tutorials on YouTube. And as you can tell from the cover photo, we share a love for the movie "Clueless." It’s the little things that bring us closer together, despite how weird some of them might be. We tend to bond over everything.

So, I can definitely say that I was lucky to find my current roommate. Many say that living with someone you're close to can get to be pretty ugly after a while, but I don’t see that happening for the two of us any time soon.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
