As a horror movie fan and a Netflix subscriber, the hunt is always on for the right movie that will not only mess with your mind but will also spook you just the right amount. I avoided the classics for this list because you already know the classics are great. While the ones on my list may not be the scariest or have the highest ratings on Netflix, here are my top ten scary movies that I think are worth watching!
1. Oculus (2013)
From the very beginning until the credits rolled, Oculus had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. This is easily the one film on this list that will mess with your mind the most. It has a paranormal feel to it with a couple of jump scares, but this plot keeps you guessing until the very end.
2. The Taking of Deborah Logan (2014)
My all time favorite movie by a long shot. I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started watching this movie which at the time had a less than two star rating. While the beginning leads you to believe it is just another demonic possession flick that you have seen a million of, I promise you this is so much more than that. The character of Deborah Logan appears to be just your average grandmotherly type, but with the twists and turns that this movie takes, you will learn that she is anything but.
3. The Hole (2009)
The Hole earned its place on this list fair and square in my heart. Do not be fooled by the PG-13 rating on this one! While it isn’t the scariest or goriest of films, it definitely kept me on my toes and I found the plot really engaging. Centered around the fears of the characters, they explore a hole that they find in their basement and discover that once inside, they must face their worst nightmares in order to free themselves.
4. Devil (2010)
As if you needed another reason to be nervous while on elevators, this movie brings something to the table that I had never seen in a scary movie before. Each character is pretty well developed and you are kept wondering where the plot is going during the entire duration of the movie. Five complete strangers enter an elevator, all seems to be normal until the elevator stops, where they then discover that there is a killer among them. You can try to guess which one it is, but you'll have to watch until the end to figure it out!
5. Vile (2011)
Forced to fill up vials up with fluids that are released when the body is exposed to severe pain, Vile portrays itself as more than just another torture movie. During the movie, each character is subject to some sort of pain and for the viewer it can be hard to watch. However, with the need to know what happens to all of these characters, this movie earns its spot on the list because of the unique storyline and gore factor.
