Going away to school is liberating. You're finally off on your own living the good life and learning to fend for yourself. But if we're being honest the good life consist of frantic google-ing, winging it and reassuring phone calls to your mom. You're not alone; calling your mother is a normal and sometimes routine thing for college students. So with that being said, here are the reasons why we call our moms.
1. To chat
There is nothing more comforting than hearing your mothers voice when you're away at school and you just want a chat. What do you do when you're bored? Call your mom and chat. What do you do when you should be in class but you've over slept? Call your mom and chat. It works for for any situation! Besides, no amount of distance can ever stop my mother from knowing all the hot new gossip, the cool jams and of course who's hooking up with who.
2. Advice
No one gets you like your mom does and she always knows the right thing to say. My mom is the first person I call when I have a problem because she always knows how to calm me down. I strongly believe I am the woman I am today because of all the advice my mother has given me. I will be calling my mom for advice until the day I die, or she blocks my number. Mom, if you're reading this please don't block my number or stop paying for my phone, thanks.
3. Information
Unfortunately there are just too many official documents and important numbers to remember all by yourself. Moms will always come in clutch with those details because they know everything. I call my mom at least three times a week to ask her a question about myself.
4. You're sad
There will come a time when you're homesick or sad for no reason and all you want to do is cry. I am so lucky to have a mother who will answer my calls at 2 A.M and then stay up all night talking until I feel better.
5. Making Plans
I have scheduled more dates with my mom than I have with a guy. The new Bridget Jones movie trailer is out? Call my mom to let her know we are going. School is almost over? Call my mom and pencil in activities for my return. The only thing better than coming home to an eventful weekend with your mom is calling her up and planning it!
The bottom line is this: you will always need your mom and she will always need you. It's important to take advantage of all the time you get with her because each and every moment is precious.
