College is definitely an experience that everyone needs to live out once. Many people say it can be expensive. That is true. College is very expensive, but that is why there are loans. College will be one of the best investments anyone can make. People say college is a waste of time and the truth is college takes all your time, but the time is devoted all to benefit you. Benefiting oneself is not a waste. I am currently finishing up my freshman year of college. I can honestly say that I could not imagine doing anything else right now other than being in school. I think everyone should ejoy the college experience.
1. You Can Learn Lots About A Lot
In college, you make the rules and by rules I mean schedule. Depending on what school you go to, the first two years can be tough with core classes, but after that it is all about what you want to learn. Every semester in college is a semester to learn something new. Take a pottery class or take a physics class. Chances are you will learn something you did not know before. Expanding a mind is one of the most amazing things a person can do. Learning allows for a person to know more about the world around them and make more educated inferences to the world around them.
2. Friends
One of the best things I have received so far in college is friends that I will cherish for life. The truth is that college is gruesome academic wise. There is so much information and so many projects, but people are experiencing it with you. They are the ones who buy you coffee at 4AM so you can finish your paper. They are the ones who wish you good luck on the final that you studied all week for. They are the ones who wiped your tears away after your first failing grade on an assignment. You live, eat, and breathe with these people. Going through hell and making it out is royal friendship points. Therefore the buddies you make in college, will have thousands of points in the future.
3. You Learn How To Adult
The real world does not give you perfect lemons to make lemonade. It gives you sour lemons that you have to override with sugar and water to make lemonade. In the working world, people expect you to have time management skills, job experience, and a winning customer service attitude. In college, there are so many opportunities to intern at a firm or to build relationships that can supply you with a job or a friend in the future. 4. You Find Yourself
College is a lot of self discovery. In college you learn about what your interests are. You learn what you want to devote the rest of your life to after graduation. You learn what drives you crazy and what keeps you sane. Most of all, you learn about yourself. College is that weird stage where people are either getting married or just meeting each other. Truth is, many people are without long relationships in school, because college is a selfish place. In college, students tend to put themselves first and let others fall behind. In doing so, students find out their true selves.
5. To Dispel the "What-If's"
College is not for everyone. I have had plenty of friends who left after first semester, because they realized this is not the right path for them. College allows you to experience being an adult without all of the consequences. When laying in bed at night you will never want to wonder, "what-if". Being in college does not mean you will be successful, but it does mean that you gave a shot at something new. College is scary for everyone involved so take a chance!
