Let’s be real for a minute starting with I know you all have seen the countless captions on Instagram couple posts saying, “I’m so lucky to be in love with my best friend!” or the popular “Boyfriend and best friend wrapped into one.”
I know you ALL have thought to yourselves “Really?! Is that even possible?” after seeing those captions and wondered why someone would possibly want the two intertwined.
Personally speaking, my boyfriend is also my best friend. I didn’t think it was possible either until I actually felt and understood the feelings behind those captions I would see all of the time.
If you have ever experienced this type of relationship you will definitely agree with the 5 reasons why your boyfriend should also be your best friend.
Reason 1:
You trust and respect each other entirely. I do not say that lightheartedly either. When your boyfriend is also your best friend that means you trust his honest opinion when you ask him about things you are experiencing in life without feeling ashamed.
Reason 2:
You can be yourself around one another. Being able to completely be myself around my boyfriend is such a rewarding feeling. He has seen me at my best, but he has also seen me at my complete worst while loving me every second. Let’s be honest - we can act as if we are 5 years old one minute and then 50 the next. Also - who else would I want to sing throwbacks such as “Hit me Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears or “I Want it That Way” by the Backstreet Boys with at the top of my lungs riding in the car?
Reason 3:
You know each other like the back of your hands. If I’m in a bad mood my boyfriend knows exactly how to pull me out of it and completely turn my mood around. Even if he has to annoy me about it until I can’t continue making the pouty/mad face and I eventually break out into a smile. Another perk is when we are eating out he knows exactly what I want because he knows me so well. For example, he just stated the other day that when we go to Panera Bread he knows what I want based upon my mood. If I’ve been in a silly mood then he knows I would order mac and cheese, but if I was actually acting like the adult that I am I would order broccoli cheddar soup in a bread bowl. It is such an amazing feeling that he knows me so well. My boyfriend knowing all of those little things just proves how much attention he pays to me.
Reason 4:
You share similar interests with one another. My boyfriend and I love to hunt and fish together. Being able to do something you love while also spending time with your significant other is such an added bonus to the relationship. One important thing though ladies - if your man says it’s a guys only hunt/fishing trip, agree with him and respect that he needs his guy time as well. There will always be another time for the two of you to enjoy that activity together.
Reason 5:
You are okay with days spent with each other doing absolutely nothing. One of the best dates I could ever ask for would be an afternoon filled with Netflix, cuddles and ice cream. I am perfectly content with doing absolutely nothing with my boyfriend because I appreciate the time spent together. We do not have to go out to fancy places or go to the movies to have the best time with each other. FYI - do not pick out the Netflix movie you two watch on that day and then fall asleep afterwards because that just caused you to lose your movie selecting privileges from that moment on.
I am so thankful to have found someone to create such precious memories with. I could not imagine how things would be if my boyfriend was not my best friend. When you find that one person who is everything you could ever ask for wrapped into one, hold on tight to that individual by displaying constant love and support for all of their hopes and dreams in life. Always remind them how much they mean to you.
That is what a relationship with your best friend is all about.
